90210 star Ryan Eggold says that while it’s true that Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty are friendly behind the scenes, his character just might be the cause of some onscreen friction between once (and future?) frenemies Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth) and Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty).
“I wish I could say Garth and Doherty were trying to kill each other, but it’s such a boring answer that they are getting along,” Eggold told PEOPLE at Nylon magazine’s TV Issue party in Hollywood. “They are not like best friends skipping and holding hands but they do their scenes, get along, and it’s fine.”
Eggold hinted that there might be a kiss ahead for his character — high school teacher Ryan Matthews — and West Beverly Hills High’s guidance counselor Kelly. “It’s very possible,” he said with a smile. “I’m the lucky guy in this show. I get to work with two gorgeous women.”
It’s also quite possible that a Kelly-Ryan-Brenda love triangle is on the horizon, based on a lingering moment between Ryan and Brenda in the show’s premiere, despite the fact Brenda prodded Kelly into going out with him.
“There was that beat,” Eggold said, still grinning. “It was really edited well, that scene. You felt that kind of three-way something. It is going to get interesting, if you remember their habits on the old show.”
As far as other 90210 shockers ahead, Eggold joked, “Luke Perry and me make out in the next episode.” — Scott HuverMICHAEL DESMOND/The CW
