Chelsea turned 18 Monday, and a rep for O’Donnell confirmed to PEOPLE on Wednesday that she chose to relocate to Wisconsin and live with her birth mom Deanna Micoley. The comedian adopted Chelsea in 1997. “Chelsea made a decision when she turned 18 that she wanted to go to her birth mother,” another source previously told PEOPLE. “This was her choice.” O’Donnell, 53, pleaded for the public’s help last week after Chelsea disappeared and revealed her daughter suffers from mental illness. Police found her in the New Jersey home of alleged heroin addict Steven Sheerer, a 25-year-old man who is now charged with endangering the welfare of a child and sending a minor a nude photo. Though her rep Cindi Berger said O’Donnell has a “good relationship” with Chelsea, the source tells PEOPLE that the high school student didn’t like it when her classmates discussed her famous parent. “She was always pretty quiet, but she hated if anyone brought up her mom,” the source says.
