As fatherhood nears for Rob Kardashian, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star is reflecting on his relationship with his own father, the late Robert Kardashian.

The 29-year-old – whose journey to first-time parenthood with fiancée Blac Chyna will be documented on the new E! reality series Rob & Chyna – lost his attorney father to cancer when he was 15.

“He’s definitely happy, looking down,” Rob exclusively tells PEOPLE exclusively for this week’s cover story.

“I had a really close bond with my dad. I was only with him for 15 years,” says Kardashian. “That’s why I’m looking forward to having that long-term bond with my child and being funny and goofy like my dad was.”
