RHONYC: Sonja Morgan Holds a Funeral for Her Beloved Dog
Sonja Morgan held a funeral for her dog on Tuesday’s Real Housewives of New York City, and although it was a touching tribute, the memorial service was also – in typical Sonja style – a little “ruff” around the edges.
“I’m finally ready to say goodbye to my dog of 18 years,” said an emotional Morgan. “I used Millou as a crutch He was my shadow.”
Morgan decided to toss a fancy funeral, asking the wives to wear black dresses and hats, and she even attempted to write her own eulogy, but Siri wouldn’t cooperate.
“Normally, I would wing my speeches, but Millou was too important to me,” said Morgan, dictating into her iPhone. “He was the best thing that ever happened to me before my daughter.”
“I’m sorry,” responded Siri. “With whom would you like to speak?”
The confusion continued at the memorial service, held near Morgan’s first home by the river.
“We’re drinking before the funeral,” said LuAnn de Lesseps. “I can’t believe I’m at a doggy memorial service in the middle of the day.”
When Morgan went to toss her dog’s ashes into the river, the wind caught them, blowing them back onto her and the busy street.
“He’s on the sidewalk!” the wives screamed in unison.
“He’s all over me,” responded Morgan, before brushing off her Valentino dress and looking on the bright side. “I wore this to Prince Rainier’s funeral.”
But Heather Thomson summed up why the funeral meant so much to Morgan, and why the loss of a beloved pet is so hard for most.
“This is about Sonja moving forward, and Sonja’s growth,” said Thomson. “She’s had a very difficult time putting the past to bed, and this is all of that in one cute little puppy package.”
Aviva Drescher’s father, George, certainly believed in moving forward: Drescher’s father, whom Morgan termed “the erection bandit,” proposed to his 25-year-old girlfriend following a casual dinner party.
“George likes ’em young. Who doesn’t?” mused Morgan, who is also known for dating much younger men.
“So, there’s a small gap in age,” joked George, who surprised his girlfriend by casually yanking an engagement ring out of a shopping bag.
“You call that a proposal?” asked Morgan. “You don’t give the ring to the girl in the bag.”
And still the answer was “Yes,” which prompted George to say, “Now she becomes the matriarch of the family.”
His daughter’s response?
“I’m happy for my father. I think,” said Drescher. “Just not so happy to have a 25-year-old stepmom.”
The Real Housewives of New York City airs Tuesdays (9 p.m. ET) on Bravo.
