After months of reading about the legal woes facing Teresa Giudice and her husband, Joe – including her pleading guilty to four counts of fraud – viewers were finally able to see the drama that went on behind the scenes on Sunday’s Real Housewives of New Jersey.

The most heartbreaking moment came when the Giudices’ 13-year-old daughter, Gia, broke down, telling her mother she understood everything that was happening.

“I obviously know what’s going on,” Gia said. “I’m old enough to understand.”

When Gia began to sob, Giudice said, “I don’t want to see her cry I just want to love her and keep her safe. I wish I could take your pain.”

Later, just before their court date, Giudice is seen on the floor of her bedroom, reciting The Lord’s Prayer.

“We’re going through rough times, and we’re going to make it through,” said Giudice, who then prayed, “Please, God, I really need protection right now Joe and I and the girls. Please protect our family. Amen.”

Said Melissa Gorga: “I think everyone’s biggest fear about all this is those four little girls.”

As the Giudices faced a media frenzy entering the courthouse, Giudice said, “We’re good people I will make sure this is right.”

The couple would exit, with attorneys stating the couple had admitted to committing fraud over the course of many years.

Said Giudice in a statement read by her attorney: “Today I took responsibility for a series of mistakes I made several years ago I express remorse I am heartbroken this is affecting my family, especially my four young daughters who mean more to me than anything in this world.”

“I’m feeling numb,” Giudice said after pleading guilty. “I can’t believe this is my life.”

On Sept. 5, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey announced on Twitter that the Giudices’ sentencing date had been moved back to Oct. 3.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey airs Sundays (8 p.m. ET) on Bravo.
