Real-Life Romance! These Reality Stars Dated People Working Behind the Scenes on Their Shows
From post-show romances to on-set scandals, these reality stars had sparks with the people who worked behind the camera
Madisson Hausburg & Ish Soto
The newly engaged couple met on the set of MTV's Siesta Key. Hausberg, who stars on the show, revealed in the third season that she was seeing Soto, a producer 20 years her senior.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the time, Hausberg opened up about having cameras rolling as she introduced Soto to her father.
"That was really hard. It's obviously a hard conversation to have anyways, and I have to give the show credit and production credit that it was all caught very organically on camera, and I have to give Ish props for coming into this situation because he easily could have said no."
"I have agreed to do this on camera and I have agreed to be truthful about my life," she added. "And he wants to be with me and so he said, 'All right, if, whatever you want to do, I'm all in.'"
Whitney Port & Tim Rosenman
Port is basically MTV reality royalty, having starred in The Hills and The City. Port started dating Rosenman, a producer on the the latter, in 2012. The pair married in 2015 and welcomed their first child, a son named Sonny, in 2017.
Kandi Burruss & Todd Tucker
The Real Housewives of Atlanta star met line producer Todd Tucker after she joined in the show's second, and their relationship has been depicted throughout the series. The pair married in 2014, and in January 2016, they welcomed a their son, Ace. In 2019, the pair also welcomed a daughter, Blaze, via surrogate.
Kristin Cavallari & Miguel Medina
Cavallari revealed on Very Cavallari that, while filming The Hills, she was hiding a relationship with a cameraman, Miguel Medina.
She told Heidi Montag and Audrina Patridge, "I talk to Brody here and there. I mean, not a lot, but yeah we've kept in touch for sure. We dated when I was 18 and then when I came on The Hills, we didn't actually date."
Cavallari explained, "We dated for a few months and nobody knew, and I was dating Brody on the show and like, meanwhile, Miguel was like filming it."
Cavallari said in a confessional, "I dated a cameraman, yeah. Sure did. Nobody knew because I'm a professional and we kept it under wraps. But, it was fun."
The pair were eventually caught at the airport before filming wrapped on the show, blowing their cover.
Amber Portwood & Andrew Glennon
The Teen Mom OG star met Glennon while filming Marriage Boot Camp: Family Edition with her ex fiancé Matt Baier. Glennon was a crew member on the show.
The pair denied getting together while Portwood was filming, but eventually WEtv, the network where the show aired, said otherwise. According to secret footage from the show, a producer said, "We never had a crew member impregnate a boot camper before."
The pair welcomed son James in May 2018. Following a domestic altercation and rumors of infidelity, they split.
Michelle Kujawa and Ryan Putz
In perhaps one of the wilder behind-the-scenes hookups, Michelle Kujawa of The Bachelor and Bachelor Pad caused quite a stir on Bachelor in Paradise when she took herself out of the competition, only to be discovered on her last night with Ryan Putz, the audio operator.
Putz jumped 25 feet from Kujawa's balcony to avoid being seen, but he ended up breaking both of his legs ... and getting fired. Although it sadly wasn't filmed, the reenactment is easily deserving of Chris Harrison's "most dramatic" designation.
Susie Meister & Adam Butler
Meister met her husband, Adam Butler, while filming MTV's Real World Road Rules Challenge: The Ruins in Thailand in 2009.
She penned an essay about the relationship, saying, "I don’t know many reality cast members who haven’t had a crush on, hooked up with, or dated a crew member. Crossing the Line is as much sport as it is romance. I’m just lucky My Sound Guy happened to live up the imaginary dream man I created in my mind. In one day, I won $70,000 and 'met' the British audio mixer who would become my husband–a sound guy indeed!"
The Bachelor contestant was kicked off of Jake Pavelka's season after being accused of carrying on with a producer during filming.
Chris Harrison told PEOPLE at the time that the two were caught by other contestants and that the staffer admitted to the hook-up.
“She had a physical relationship with a producer on our show,” Harrison said. “You cannot do that. There is no gray area. … Other girls on the show saw it. The producer confessed more than once and to more than one person. I cannot make it any clearer.”
However, in Amy Kaufman's book Bachelor Nation, Papa denied having any sort of relationship with the producer in question, suggesting it was a one-way crush. When she confronted him during a phone call after her dismissal, she says he told her that he reported his feelings to his bosses because "they could just see it on my face that I really cared for you in a way that I didn't care for the other contestants."
David Burns & Kira
In 1998, David Burns appeared on The Real World: Seattle, where he began a secret romance with his casting director, Kira. Kira, 10 years his senior, was fired after the pair spent weeks hiding their relationship, and the pair had a huge blow-up fight in earshot of the cameras.
Burns told MTV News, "Bear in mind, I was coming from an all-male military school -- I really didn't have much contact with women. So to have a woman 10 years my senior show affection to me, I absolutely flipped my lid. I just fell madly in love with her. And with good reason — she’s a beautiful, intelligent woman. I’m still friends with Kira; unfortunately, she just happened to be employed by the company that was f---ing filming me."
Julia Berry and Jeff Probst
While Julia Berry was competing on Survivor in 2004, she met the show's longtime host, Jeff Probst. But the couple didn't reveal that they were together until the show's live reunion.
After they broke up in 2008, Probst told USA Today, "I definitely fell in love on Survivor. For sure. And wouldn't change a thing about it."
