It was the battle of the booze on Wednesday’s The Real Housewives of New York City.
Sonja Morgan unveiled her Tipsy Girl alcohol brand at a dazzling birthday party, where most of her RHONY friends toasted her new prosecco as delicious. Notably absent was Bethenny Frankel, causing Julianna Wainstein to ask Morgan what Frankel thought of the name’s similarity to Frankel’s Skinnygirl brand.
It turns out, Frankel did not think much of it. In a preview for next week’s episode, Frankel chews out a tearful Morgan.
“When a brand rides on the coattails of another brand, they call it a cheater brand,” Frankel says. “It’s a personal insult and I don’t want anything to do you with you.”
Back to this week’s episode: There were plenty of dramatic – and even tearjerking moments.
Wainstein, who opens up to PEOPLE in this week’s issue about her struggles with anorexia, got candid about her battles, which sent her to rehab at age 23. She said she hopes to be a role model to give hope to younger women going through similar things.
“I was 80 pounds. Never got my period. I was so nervous that I could never get pregnant. It would give me so much hope that this wasn’t it,” she said, noting that she wished that in her 20s she had someone older to look up to.
Wainstein also noted that other women call her skinny – and it’s not a compliment the way they say it. See: How Morgan and Dorinda Medley greeted Wainstein at the Tipsy Girl launch.
“My caterer says you need to eat a little!” said Morgan, with Medley interjecting, “She’s the true skinny bitch!”
To the camera, Wainstein deadpanned: “Thanks for the memo. I’m going to be hungry soon.”
The episode opened by continuing the season’s seemingly immortal storyline – the fact that Medley’s friends (still) don’t like her boyfriend, John Mahdessian.
When a psychic told Medley that she wouldn’t end up marrying John, Ramona Singer remarked, “Thank God.” Medley retaliated by taking a jab at her split from ex Mario: “Oh sorry, he left you for somebody else.”
The conversation ended in tears, with the women embracing each other and apologizing.
…All’s well that ends well?
