The Original Real Housewives of New Jersey: Where Are They Now?
Fans were excited to meet Teresa after season 1 previews teased her now-infamous table flip and "prostitution whore" comment. And she didn't disappoint, bringing lots of drama — as well as laughs and family moments with her husband Joe and four daughters — to the series.
However, her world flipped not long after she joined the cast: she and her husband filed for bankruptcy, he was arrested on a January 2010 DUI and rumors of infidelity swirled. Then the real drama: they were both indicted on federal fraud charges on July 29, 2013, accused of exaggerating their income while applying for loans before the Real Housewives debuted, then hiding their improved fortunes in their bankruptcy filing.
Teresa served nearly a year in prison in 2015, and Joe began his 41-month sentence in 2016. In October 2018, a judge ruled that Joe will be deported to his native Italy when he finishes his prison sentence in 2019; the family has appealed the ruling and is waiting to see what happens next.
Teresa — who has settled back into motherhood as well as a career in bodybuilding — rejoined the RHONJ cast after serving her time, and at the season 9 reunion this year, said she and Joe would part ways if he does end up back in Italy.
Another original cast member, the mom of three was often the voice of reason during her time on the show. Married to Chris Laurita — a brother of cast members Dina and Caroline Manzo — Laurita was also connected to the cast as a friend of Teresa.
After five seasons, Laurita took a break in season 6, appearing once in a while as a "friend," and returned full-time in season 7. But the events of that year led to a major falling out with Teresa.
Again off the show, Laurita is savoring time with her two young sons — one of whom was diagnosed with autism in 2012 — as well as her adult daughter and grandson.
Also a mom of three, Manzo joined the cast in season 1 with her sister, Dina. Her popularity as a fiercely loyal mother even led to a family spinoff, Manzo'd with Children.
Since leaving Housewives after season 5 — though apparently once entertaining an offer to return — Manzo has watched her family grow, as her daughter Lauren welcomed her own daughter in 2017.
Caroline's sister — once married to Caroline's husband's brother — was also a founding member of the show, more private and reserved than the rest of the cast. A philanthropist and party planner, she left the series after two seasons, only to return in season 6 then moving to California. The series did earn her her own HGTV show, Dina's Party, for two seasons.
Her time on Housewives was not her favorite, though, and led to a falling out with Caroline, whom she hasn't spoken to in nearly three years.
In 2018, the mother to 22-year-old Lexi announced she was engaged, and months later sadly revealed she'd recently lost "a few pregnancies."
Divorced mother of two Staub brought the drama in her first two seasons on the show, particularly as the other women confronted her about her past, which was detailed in a book called Cop Without a Badge, a tome about her ex. In it, she was painted as a prostitute and drug user, claims she denied in an interview with PEOPLE.
She spent much of the series defending her character and often feeling at odds with the other women, and left after two seasons. She returned as a "friend" in the most recent run, season 9.
