The two Housewives (of New York and Beverly Hills, respectively) got into a spat on Tuesday’s episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills when Frankel, 45, trashed Girardi’s music video as her alter ego Erika Jayne, calling it “cheap” and “cheesy.”
Now Frankel tells PEOPLE Girardi and her fellow RHOBH cast mates should have seen the storm coming.
“You can’t have it both ways,” she says of her cameo. “What am I gonna do, agree to work with Kyle and then sit there and not say what’s on my mind? I know Bravo well enough that they didn’t bring me on there because they think I’m cute.”
“They wanted me to stir it up a little,” she continues. “They know I’m gonna say what’s on my mind, and I’m a little less calculated than the women on that show. You know, I helped [Erika] out with a little bit of press for what she’s doing.”
Calling the women of Beverly Hills “more edited [and] controlled,” she believes Girardi’s fellow wives – including Frankel’s longtime Kyle Richards, Lisa Vanderpump, Lisa Rinna and Eileen Davidson – “all felt really similar to the way I felt but they were excited for me to be the one to say it.”
For her part, Vanderpump told PEOPLE Now this week that she thought Frankel “got it wrong” with her sharp criticism of Girardi’s work, but the Skinnygirl mogul stood her ground shortly after the episode, tweeting, “As long as I’m [on] reality TV, I ain’t playin’ it safe.”
She held the same line in conversation with PEOPLE, advising Girardi and her fans on Thursday: “Don’t hate the player, hate the game.”
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills airs Tuesdays (9 p.m. ET).
