The Dreamgirls star has joined season 3 of the Starz drama, and PEOPLE has an exclusive First Look at her as LaVerne “Jukebox” Ganner, a police officer who goes way back with some of the show’s major players.
“She excited me,” the Tony Award-winning actress – who most recently starred in the History Channel remake of 1977’s miniseries [LINK” “” “” “0” ] – says about playing tough Jukebox. “I find everything about her delicious. For me as an artist, she is the road less traveled.”
Rose, 43, is excited to make her debut on Sunday’s episode of Starz’s top-rated show, but there’s one thing the actress had to get used to when stepping into the role – wearing a police uniform.
Apparently, the large multi-purpose belt was “heavy and the opposite of comfortable,” says Rose. “I had a bruise on each hip at the end of shoot days. My little body did not enjoy that belt.”
Her experience with her cast mates as the new kid on set was a lot less painful.
“I have done a lot of guest-starring and had a lot of good experiences, but I think between the work, the great crew and the welcoming way the cast I worked with received me, this has been my favorite.”
Power airs Sundays (9 p.m. ET) on Starz.
