The people have spoken – and they want Jon Stewart.

An online petition on that has garnered more than 209,000 signatures is asking that the former host of The Daily Show moderate one of the 2016 presidential debates.

Mariel Waters, a high school social studies teacher in New Jersey, started the petition on Aug. 6 – the same day Stewart wrapped The Daily Show.

Waters told that the first Republican primary debate was “a spectacle” and she thinks Stewart would get two presidential candidates “to a more genuine place.”

In her petition, Waters said that Stewart “is more than qualified to tackle the moderating job,” adding that “many in the U.S. believe [he] shares their worldview and values.”

“Choosing Jon Stewart would be a popular choice among voters,” she added.

Waters also referenced a 2012 petition set up by high school students asking for a female moderator for the debates that received more than “180,000 signatures and won!”

She is hoping to get 300,000 signatures for her petition.
