In his first interview since his friend and Fast & Furious costar Paul Walker died in a Nov. 30 car crash, Tyrese Gibson revealed to talk-show host Arsenio Hall on Monday about the time he spent with Walker right before he died.

“I was with him just four days before it happened,” Gibson, 35, said on The Arsenio Hall Show. “We were on the set shooting, and that was a lot of shock and trauma for the family and all of us involved, because he’s such a nice guy.”

After an emotional Dec. 1 visit to the site of the crash, Gibson largely withdrew from public view, preferring instead to express his grief via social media.

“In moments like this, it feels – it feels like death has won,” Gibson later posted to Facebook, paraphrasing a funeral sermon by Bishop T.D. Jakes. “But the Bible says that love is stronger than death.”
