Outlander season 2.

Outlander star Sam Heughan wants fans to know they will be, ahem, satisfied with the end of the first season.

The 34-year-old actor, who plays hunky Scot Jamie Fraser, stopped by PEOPLE Now to talk about the return of the Starz series, dropping some tantalizing hints about what’s to come in the second half of season 1 and teasing a “great climax.”

“I think the relationships, all of them, are tested,” he says. “It’s a real roller coaster, and the momentum from the first part of the season really carries through until this great climax.”

He adds that fans of Diana Gabaldon’s novels will be especially pleased. “There’s so many things from the books as well that are in there that I think fans of the books will really look forward to,” he says.

His costar Caitriona Balfe told PEOPLE on Wednesday that Claire and Jamie’s “honeymoon phase” is over.

“They married very quickly,” she said. “It was love and like a honeymoon phase, and now, not only do they have all these external forces coming into play that are going to test them, there’s a lot of internal friction because they’re two different people from different times.”

Watch the video above (if only to hear Heughan say the word “climax”). Outlander returns Saturday at 9 p.m. on Starz.
