Droughtlander is almost at an end, but when Outlander returns on Saturday, it won’t be all rainbows and butterflies for our redheaded hunk and his feisty bride.

“We really see Claire and Jamie’s relationship get tested,” Caitriona Balfe, 35, told PEOPLE at Wednesday night’s premiere in New York City.

“They married very quickly,” she said. “It was love and like a honeymoon phase, and now, not only do they have all these external forces coming into play that are going to test them, there’s a lot of internal friction because they’re two different people from different times.”

But don’t worry, Outlander fans. Balfe still thinks there’s hope for the newlyweds – as long as they learn to respect each other.

“They really have to figure out maybe not accepting each other’s behavioral ways,” the actress said, “but understanding where it’s coming from so that way they can continue to build their relationship.” (And continue to have plenty of steamy sex.)

Outlander returns Saturday at 9 p.m. on Starz.
