Fans are mourning the loss of a beloved character on Orange Is the New Black, as they unexpectedly had to say farewell this season to a Litchfield inmate who has been on the Netflix hit show from the start.
Spoiler warning: For those who haven’t finished season 4 of OITNB, plot details will be revealed ahead.
Poussey (Samira Wiley) is officially gone. Yes, you read that correctly.
Poussey, being the kind, gentle soul that she is, died trying to calm Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba) down so she doesn’t end up going to Psych. We all know how awful that place is. Sadly, it was prison guard Bayley (Alan Aisenberg) who took Poussey’s life by holding her down with a knee to her back after she tried to intervene. She wound up unable to breathe and suffocated on the cold, hard cafeteria floor.
(We’re not crying, you’re crying!)

One thing is for sure: Poor Soso (Kimiko Glenn)! Their love was just heating up, but sadly they had a fight and hadn’t reconciled in person before Poussey’s untimely death.
Fans have started to flood to Wiley’s Instagram account to share their heartbreak and tears all the while spoiling the news for others. Yet, it’s great to see how much her character was enjoyed.
It’s going to be hard bouncing back from this. RIP Poussey Washington – you will be missed.
Season 4 of Orange Is the New Black is now streaming on Netflix.
