Opera Singer, 10, Has 'Susan Boyle Moment' on America's Got Talent
Jackie Evancho dazzled the audience and impressed the judges with a stunning version of "O Mio Babbino Caro"
Tuesday’s episode of America’s Got Talent showcased the most unique acts found on YouTube, including an accordion-playing dog and a pizza dough juggler. But the one that will have viewers talking for the rest of the season is opera singer Jackie Evancho, 10.
The little girl, who has blue eyes, blonde hair and comes from Pittsburgh, dazzled the audience and impressed the judges with a stunning version of “O Mio Babbino Caro.”
Evancho left host Nick Cannon in total disbelief. “I was like, Okay, where’s the lady that’s gonna come out and make everybody laugh? But that s really her voice, Cannon tells PEOPLE. “That was the best performance I have ever seen on this show.”
Evancho, who started singing when she was 7 after watching the movie Phantom of the Opera, was moved to tears when judge Piers Morgan said she gave everyone in the room goosebumps.
“Superstar. Absolutely amazing. Susan Boyle moment,” Morgan tells PEOPLE of the performance. “She s a favorite by miles.”
Mandel agreed that Evancho’s unique voice doesn t seem real and praised her “pure talent” as a highlight of the season. “I saw the moment of the season tonight, Mandel says. I saw a gem.
