Three’s a crowd on One Tree Hill, it seems, and the love triangles brought double trouble on Tuesday night’s episode. Sparks flew between Lucas, Peyton and Lindsey and Nathan, Haley and nanny Carrie, setting up some nasty confrontations for next week’s OTH.

(Maybe because of that four-year gap between last season’s One Tree Hill and this year, the show’s making up for lost time!)

Lucas (Chad Michael Murrary) and Peyton (Hilarie Burton) called it quits after a bygone botched engagement, as seen in a recent flashback episode. Peyton was schlepping coffee in L.A. as a record-company assistant and thought she was too young for marriage. Now, moved back to North Carolina, Peyton sees the now-successful novelist Lucas has rebounded with Lindsey (Michaela McManus), has second thoughts and will promptly cause trouble. In next week’s teaser, she drops the “L” bomb and plants a kiss on him.

Speaking of trouble, Carrie (Torrey DeVitto), who Nathan (James Lafferty) and Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) hire to babysit their young son, is up to some of her own. During a flirtatious afternoon, Carrie splashes Nathan in the family pool and helps him put his pants on, before going for a solo late-night skinny dip as he watches. Haley has a nightmare that Carrie has become the “other mom,” and that Nathan’s eye is wandering. –Nicholas White
