So, did Marcia Clark and Christopher Darden ever hook up?
It’s the question that viewers of American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson couldn’t help but ask after their romantic spark was explored on week’s episode, and on Thursday’s Ellen DeGeneres Show, Clark didn’t quite clear up whether something ever happened between them.
“You and Chris Darden … I know you’re not going to confirm this, but it seemed like y’all had a relationship,” probed host Ellen DeGeneres, 58. “I don’t know if it ever went anywhere, but it seemed like he was in love with you.”
“It didn’t seem that way to me,” Clark said, laughing.
“We were really partners. We were trench mates,” she added of Darden, who worked with her during the 1994 O.J. Simpson murder trial. “He wasn’t my second chair – a lot of times when you prosecute, you have a senior prosecutor and a junior prosecutor. It wasn’t like that. We were co-counsels, and he was my partner, and I can’t tell you how important it was to have him there.”
DeGeneres then started smiling knowingly, teasing: “Did y’all make out?”
Clark, 62, then erupted in laughter, revealing only that they “danced.”
DeGeneres pressed on, though: “In the series that we saw you almost made out, but you didn’t make out. But like, in real life, you make out?”
“We did take trip to the Bay Area,” Clark said, still laughing.
DeGeneres made one last valiant effort: “Yeah. So you made out?”
“This is going well!” Clark replied.
Watch the clip to see the conversation unfold, and find out what happened when Clark and Simpson had their final exchange years after the trial concluded.
Oh, and fun fact? Darden actually went on to marry a woman named Marcia Carter in 1997.
