NFL Star Aaron Rodgers Will Guest Host an Episode of 'Jeopardy!' : 'I'm Excited'

The NFL's Aaron Rodgers will be serving as a guest host on an episode of Jeopardy!

The Green Bay Packers quarterback appeared virtually on The Pat McAfee Show on SiriusXM's Mad Dog Sports Radio and shared that he always looked up to the late longtime host, Alex Trebek.

"One of my idols growing up was Alex Trebek," he said Tuesday.

"They're doing some guest hosting spots and it's going to be released here pretty soon, but I have the opportunity to do one of those," Rodgers, 37, added. "I'm excited about that opportunity with Jeopardy!"

The pro athlete previously made an appearance on Celebrity Jeopardy! back in 2015, beating Shark Tank star Kevin O'Leary and retired astronaut Mark Kelly to earn a $50,000 donation to a charity of his choice. Rodgers chose the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer fund.

When Trebek died this past November, Rodgers reflected on his experience meeting the beloved host.

"It's safe to say I was starstruck," Rodgers told The Athletic at the time. "I was just telling one of our coaches today as we talked about it. It's happened a few times in my life where I've been starstruck by somebody, and I understand maybe what that feels like to a lesser degree when somebody meets me, and that's what I think gives me a good perspective with those interactions."

"I was so excited, trying to keep it together and act like it wasn't the huge deal that it was to me on the inside," he added.

Trebek's final episode as the Jeopardy! host, which he filmed in October, aired last week. On Monday, the show began airing episodes with guest hosts while they look for his replacement, starting with champion Ken Jennings and followed by other members of the Jeopardy! family.

"Though a long-term replacement host will not be named at this time, Jeopardy! will return to the studio with a series of interim guest hosts from within the Jeopardy! family, starting with Ken Jennings," said the ABC show, which resumed production on Nov. 30, in a statement.
