Tuesday night’s season finale of CBS’s NCIS left fans with some questions – and the obvious answers aren’t comforting.

The episode’s final moments had Mark Harmon‘s Leroy Gibbs taking not one bullet but two, with both of them being fired by a juvenile terrorist. The shooting was followed by an even more dastardly move by the show: those horrible words “To Be Continued.”

Fans of the show will have to wait until the new season to find out if Harmon’s character will be returning, but they might be interested to know that Harmon, 63, made some cryptic statements while appearing on The Late Late Show on Monday.

Host James Corden pushed Harmon to reveal which character would be killed off in the episode, to which Harmon replied, “I think anyone on the show is replaceable.”

Which of Rocky Carroll’s NCIS Costars Might Be the Smartest Man in the World?

“This show births characters leaving. It always has. It keeps actors healthy,” he said, finally adding, “It’s not my choice.”
