'Xena' Rebooted? NBC Allegedly Considering Revival of Fantasy Action Series

Will everyone’s favorite warrior princess be returning to the small screen?

NBC is allegedly considering a reboot of Xena, the cult favorite Lucy Lawless syndicated series that began in 1995.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC is considering a “modern reboot” of the show, and while it’s unclear exactly what that means, those pushing the project forward would like Lawless, 47, to have a role both onscreen and behind the scenes. Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi, who executive produced the original series, are involved in this potential new adaptation as well. (Tapert is also Lawless’ husband.)

Xena: Warrior Princess began as a spinoff from the Kevin Sorbo series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and eventually developed a strong fan following in its own right. The show ran for six seasons and concluded in 2001.

Earlier this month, Lawless told HitFix that she supported a reboot.

“They’ve got to bring that back. I’ve been pitching that show this weekend,” she said at Comic Con. “There’s a swell of interest still, and I’m always being peppered with questions. ‘When is the Xena movie coming out?’ Guys, I’m pitching my ass my ass off to make it happen, whether it’s with me or not.”

However, Lawless responded to the story reminding fans that the reboot buzz is, at least for now, just a rumor.
