Is it Music City – or Drama City?

Hayden Panettiere and Connie Britton are going head-to-head (more like voice-to-voice) in Nashville, ABC’s upcoming musical drama that pits a veteran country star against the latest ingénue in cowboy boots.

“My character, Juliette Barnes, is very edgy,” Panettiere, 22, says of her on-screen alter ego in a preview of the series (watch below), which premieres Oct. 10. “She comes off very diva-ish and bratty and snotty sometimes.”

But with a joint tour on the table, it looks like this diva, whose whirlwind success reads like a Taylor Swift fairy tale, will have to come together with Britton’s character, seasoned veteran Rayna James.

Drama aside, the show is all about the music, Panettiere adds.

“It is real, whole-hearted, gritty, raw, talented Nashville,” she says.
