The new show is set to hit Disney Junior in early 2018
After 25 years off air, these iconic characters are heading back to the nursery… but with a new look!
Disney’s reimagined Jim Henson’s Muppet Babies series, which has begun production, is set to hit Disney Junior in early 2018. Yet as exciting as it sounds for some who loved the original, it just doesn’t feel right for others.
Could it be the creepy CG-animated versions of the beloved characters glaring back at us on screen? Most likely.
In the first look at the 100% computer generated Baby Kermit, Baby Piggy, and Baby Fozzie, and it’s unsettling. Longtime fans of the show took to Twitter to express their, well, displeasure for the Muppet Babies‘ new animated look.
As for Disney, they’re really excited to bring the reimagined reboot to life for a whole new generation.
“We are proud, and a little bit giddy, to begin production on our new version of the much-loved ‘Muppet Babies,’ ” said Nancy Kanter, executive vice president, Original Programming and general manager, Disney Junior Worldwide in a press release. “Parents will delight in seeing their favorite Muppets in the mixed animation style they remember from the original series, and kids will be introduced to this warm and zany world made just right for the Disney Junior audience.”
“Bringing ‘Muppet Babies’ to Disney Junior is a wonderful opportunity to reach a new generation of viewers and to creatively build on the innovative original series,” added Debbie McClellan, vice president, the Muppets Studio. “We hope to engage and delight the nostalgic fans while also entertaining new kids, parents and diverse audiences through heart and humor as only the Muppets can deliver.”
