This year, the MTV Movie Awards switched things up by taping the show on Saturday in Burbank, California, and then will air the telecast on Sunday night. Still, one thing hasn’t changed: a bevy of watercooler moments.
Here’s what to keep an eye out for at tonight’s star-studded – and expectedly irreverent – shindig, which airs at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
Can’t get enough of Deadpool? How about a whole battalion of them. Ryan Reynolds hit the stage to accept his award for best comedic performance – but not before a horde of Deadpool dancers busted a move to Salt-N-Pepa’s “Shoop.”
Rebel Wilson and Adam DeVine Make Good on Their Best Kiss Award
Yep, they snagged the trophy for snogging in Pitch Perfect 2 – and now the duo are showing folks just why they deserve the award. The two apparently gave attendees an eyeful of a lip-lock onstage while accepting their award. (Rebel also happily posted a bunch of Instagrams from the red carpet of the cast’s reunion.)
Melissa McCarthy Crowd-Surfs to Victory
Melissa McCarthy: powerhouse actor, producer, writer … and crowd-surfer extraordinaire. The Boss star seemingly made quite an entrance to accept her Comedic Genius Award – the first female to snag the honor – by crowd-surfing to the stage.
Nope, Generation Award Winner Will Smith Is Anything but an ‘Old Dude’
The Concussion superstar was honored with this year’s Generation Award, and, in typically humble, self-effacing Smith fashion, he quipped onstage, “When MTV gave me this award, I thought this was an old dude award.” Far from it: To celebrate the actor’s astounding career, Smith got props from The Lonely Island (who did a Smith medley mash-up), Queen Latifah and Halle Berry.
Ariana Grande Pulls Off Her Best Marilyn Monroe
The ponytail’s still there, but the octave-busting songbird went mega old-school for her performance of “Dangerous Woman,” channeling Marilyn Monroe in a slinky, sultry pink gown – diamonds and fur and all. Talk about breaking free!
