Cristian Goes Wax-Free It’s a standard practice for male ballroom dancers to shave their chests. Cristian de la Fuente thought about waxing off his chest hair, but partner Cheryl Burke insisted that he leave the tuft alone. “It’s manly!” she squealed. Says De la Fuente, “I thought because the male dancers have no hair, that if I want to be like a dancer I should do as the dancers do, but she said no.” Still, he grew a beard and mustache for the paso doble (left). “Tomorrow for the results show I’ll leave it, and then I’ll shave it off.”
Priscilla: Body Rockin’! She may be 62, but Priscilla Presley has the body of a woman decades younger. “I’ve never had a weight problem, but this dancing is making me lose inches,” she told PEOPLE after the show. Presley, who performed the Viennese waltz with partner Louis Van Amstel, says that’s not the show’s only positive side effect: “I was in Chicago recently and were going, ‘We’re voting for you!’ People are just coming out of the woodwork. It’s a nice thing.”
Mario’s Girl Trouble With all of the Dancing female pros are around, “I’ll admit, sometimes I have trouble concentrating,” Mario told PEOPLE. “I have a great time watching them. But at the end of the day it’s about being focused on the dance.” Still, he doesn’t mind focusing on their moves. “I’d like to see them all do a dance together, just the women. That would be beautiful.”
Ode to Maksim During a commercial break one fan grabbed the microphone from warmup comedian Corey Almeida to give a shout-out to Spice Girl Mel B., who was sitting in the audience. The fan yelled, “We loved you on the show last season. You and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were great!”
From the Heart Their waltz brought Carrie Ann Inaba to tears, but how Marlee Matlin and Fabian Sanchez ended it was even more touching: He signed “I love you” to Matlin. “That was Fabian’s beautiful idea. When he did that I was jumping for joy. I have to thank him for that,” Matlin says.
Carolla on a Rolla! Who knew that Adam Carolla could ride a unicycle? “I used to ride one when I was a kid and then I never rode one again,” he told PEOPLE. “But this week I got back on and dusted it off.” Yep, that wasn’t just a prop — it was his own wheel. “Jimmy Kimmel got it for me for a Christmas present last year. It’s one thing to ride a unicycle on your patio, but in front of 20 million it makes you a little bit nervous.”
Marissa: Hot Guy Magnet! Marissa Jaret Winokur had her own ab fab experience — with partner Tony Dovolani’s bared torso during their paso doble (right). So, does the close contact make her hubby, TV writer Judah Miller, jealous? “Oh, please! Judah has to deal with other men’s abs on a regular basis. When I was in Hairspray I worked with an actor named Matt Morrison, who played Link. We were kissing more than Judah and I were kissing. I have a very lucky career. I always get cast with very hot guys.” For the record, Miller tells PEOPLE it’s all good. “I tell her, ‘Go for it, honey! Have fun out there.’ She loves it. She’s having the time of her life and I’m happy for her.”
More Stuff You Didn’t See • Jason Taylor kindly waved and blew kisses back to some excited ladies as he took the dancefloor. So what does he make of his new fan base? “For whatever reason they like me,” Taylor said. “And I love them back!”
• One fan handed Kristi Yamaguchi a plastic hot dog, a nod to last week‘s April Fool’s sketch in which she pretended to be a hot dog eating champion.
• After Marlee Matlin’s waltz, the show went to commercial, and Carrie Ann Inaba got a touch-up. Two makeup assistants rushed to the judge’s seat to help her dry her teary eyes. — Monica Rizzo
