Entertainment TV Mischa Barton Cast in ABC Family Drama 'Recovery Road' Barton's last starring role was in 2009's The Beautiful Life By Michele Corriston Published on May 18, 2015 05:05 PM Share Tweet Pin Email Photo: Gisela Schober/Getty Mischa Barton is back. The O.C. actress is returning to the small screen to guest-star in ABC Family’s new drama Recovery Road, the network tells PEOPLE exclusively. The show is based on the Y.A. novels by Blake Nelson and follows a group of teens recovering from addiction at a rehab center, Springtime Meadows. Jessica Sula (Skins), Kyla Pratt (One on One), Sebastian de Souza (The Borgias), Sharon Leal (Dreamgirls), David Witts (Eastenders), Lindsay Pearce (The Glee Project) and Daniel Franzese (Looking, but most importantly, Damian “I Want My Pink Shirt Back” in Mean Girls) lead the cast. Barton, 29, plays Olivia, a patient at another center who becomes friends with Franzese’s character, Vern. The source material hits close to home for the former child actress, who was arrested for a DUI in 2007 and spent time in a psychiatric ward two years later. “It was a full-on breakdown,” she told PEOPLE in 2013. “I was under enormous pressure.” RELATED VIDEO: The Meanest Looks of Mean Girls Recovery Road marks Barton’s first major televison role since 2009’s short-lived The Beautiful Life: TBL.
