Mindy Kaling‘s new book Why Not Me? is chock full of her famous candor, but she leaves one giant mystery for her readers: Who is Will – the charming aide to President Barack Obama who spent over a year trying to woo her?

Kaling, 36, chronicles the romance in detail – how ‘Will’ gave her a tour of the White House, invitations to some of Washington’s hottest parties, and finally “late night of passion.”

The Mindy Project actress never divulges Will’s real identity, but she does leave plenty of clues. She says he’s tall with blonde hair and wears glasses. He’s a Tennessee native, an Ivy League graduate (University of Pennsylvania) and he travels “everywhere with the president.”

The two met at a fundraiser in New York that the president was attending when Kaling was 34 years old. The actress writes that that she found Will exotic and gave him her email.

Things were going well with ‘Will’ – then she got called in to meet Obama. “That was a moment when I realized how cool my life is. I was trying to hit on a guy and was being c—-blocked by the President of the United States,” Kaling writes.

Over the next few months, Kaling began receiving invitations to “incredible events in Washington D.C.,” – holiday parties, egg hunts at the White House and the White House Correspondents’ dinner. But with conflicting schedules, Kaling writes, her relationship with Will was mainly limited to emails and text messages.

After months of pondering whether ‘Will’ actually liked her romantically, Mindy reveals: “Will spent the night. The next morning when he was leaving, he was so shy and adorable in my foyer, that when I closed the door, I covered my mouth with my hand to stifle my scream.”

In the end, Kaling says the romance fizzled out.

“Will and I continued to text and e-mail, and would try to see each other, but it never seemed to crystallize into anything more,” Kaling writes. ” All I had to do now was move on. In the words of both Mariah Carey and Taylor Swift, I knew I could shake it off.”
