Michael Strahan Is 'Looking Forward' to His Final Days at Live!
Several hundred fans of Michael Strahan, many wearing New York Giants jerseys, filled the lobby and an exhibit hall of New Jersey’s Yogi Berra Museum on Tuesday night, clutching copies of his newest book and eagerly awaiting the TV star’s scheduled 6 p.m. arrival.
More than 30 minutes later, Strahan sat down and began signing copies of his 2015 motivational memoir Wake Up Happy: The Dream Big, Win Big Guide To Transforming Your Life.
When PEOPLE asked Strahan how he was feeling about things winding down at Live! – his last day as co-host, as PEOPLE exclusively reported, is May 13 – the former star for the New York Giants said: “Great. Looking forward to it.”
Strahan’s surprise announcement that he’d be leaving Live! for Good Morning America created quite a bit of drama, with sources telling PEOPLE that co-host Kelly Ripa was “completely blindsided” by the news.
Strahan, 44, also told PEOPLE Tuesday night about the joy he feels about winning a recent Daytime Emmy with Ripa, 45.
“Great. Phenomenal,” he said. “I think it’s a nice surprise for everybody.”
Live! With Kelly and Michael airs weekdays (check local listings).
