Mena Suvari is signed on to star in TV Land’s comedy pilot American Woman, PEOPLE has confirmed.

The comedy, created and inspired by the life of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards, also stars Clueless actress Alicia Silverstone.

TV Land’s new series will follow 40-year-old Bonnie Nolan (Silverstone, 39), a mother of two girls, who finds herself single, alone and unemployed after her marriage fails in the 1970s.

Suvari, 37, will play Kathleen, one of Bonnie’s closest friends, who longs for love and marriage but continuously finds herself choosing “boy toys” that exploit her for both her looks and pocketbook, Variety first reported.

The actress has a knack for choosing all-American on-screen projects. American Woman is the seventh project that Suvari has been connected to with “American” in the title, following American Pie, American Beauty, American Virgin (later changed to Live Virgin), American Pie 2, American Horror Story and American Reunion.
