Melissa Rivers Reveals Why She Kept a Few Surprising Items From Mom Joan's Estate
The Fashion Police host says she kept "strange things"
Joan Rivers amassed a collection of couture gowns, one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces and expensive art over the course of her career, but for daughter Melissa her mother’s most priceless possessions might surprise some.
“I kept her toothbrush cup. I kept the stuff from her night table. I kept the stuff from the side of her bathtub. I kept strange things like that,” she says in the latest issue of PEOPLE.

“At first I said, ‘I’m not getting rid of anything. I’m keeping everything!'” says the Fashion Police star. “But little by little, you start to weed through it. Now I want someone else to love her things and enjoy them.”

Though they were always extremely close and worked side by side for years, there were still plenty of surprises Melissa, 48, encountered while organizing Joan’s estate.
“I learned that my mother was a big-time maximalist,” she jokes. “If you’re rich and a hoarder, you’re a ‘maximalist.’ I’m not talking newspapers on the floor and tunnels with cats, but man, she had stuff stashed everywhere! She never met a tag sale she didn’t like.”
