Mark Consuelos has nothing but fond memories of his late friend Luke Perry.

Consuelos, 48, opened up about his friendship with Perry while working on Riverdale together, saying he admired the late actor‘s outlook on life.

“One thing about Luke that always struck me was the way he talked about his life. He had so many good stories, and he saw them as chapters in his life,” he told Esquire. “He recalled them with such fondness, even if it was a s—y time. He always found the wit and humor in these crazy situations. He always found the beauty in it.”

Consuelos added that while his time with Perry was short, his impact will last a lifetime.

“I knew him for such a short time and he had such an impact on me, and everyone around him,” he said. “I feel grateful that maybe I was a passage, a page or two, in a chapter of his life.”

Perry starred as Fred Andrews on the hit CW series; Consuelos plays Hiram Lodge.

On Wednesday’s episode, Perry appeared in the final scene that he filmed for Riverdale ahead of his death. In his final moments on the show, Perry’s character comforted his son Archie (K.J. Apa) after he was accused of committing a crime.

It’s not clear how Fred’s storyline will end, but Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed on Sunday that this week’s episode was the last one that the actor filmed.

“This week’s #Riverdale is the last episode Luke filmed,” he tweeted alongside a photo of Perry as Archie’s dad. “As always, Fred’s imparting words of wisdom to Archie. A beautiful, true moment between a father and his son.”

“Wish these scenes could go on forever…” he added.

Aguirre-Sacasa admitted in March that the cast and crew were still struggling to come to terms with Perry’s death.

“You know, honestly, we are I think all still in shock and are all still processing and grieving,” he said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “We know that we have to address it in some way, but wer’e giving ourselves a little bit of time and space before we figure out the best way to honor him.”

Perry was hospitalized after suffering a massive stroke on Feb. 27. The Beverly Hills, 90210 actor died five days later, on March 4. A source told PEOPLE he never regained consciousness. He was 52.

According to a copy of his death certificate obtained by PEOPLE, Perry was buried in Dickson, Tennessee, one week after his death. The actor was a part-time resident of Tennessee and had owned a farm there since 1995.

Riverdale airs Wednesdays (8 p.m. ET) on The CW.
