Mark Burnett isn’t just a mega reality television producer – he’s also an unknowing matchmaker.

The man behind The Voice spoke about the romance between show judges Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani at the 2016 Emmy Awards on Sunday night, and he’s anticipating being in attendance if and when they say “I do.”

“I’m really hoping that I get invited to the wedding,” the 56-year-old producer told reporters in the press room.

When asked if he saw their romance coming, Burnett admitted he was not even thinking about the possibility.

“On a very serious note, people go through peaks and valleys, lights and dark times in their lives, and you always have to look ahead to the lights in the journey,” he shared. “So in the case of Blake and Gwen, both have had some dark times, emotionally in their relationships.”

He continued, “I had no idea by coming to work on a fun music show they would find the loves of their life, and the light exploded and they are happier than you can imagine. We are all thrilled to be their friends and see the happiness.”

Shelton, 40, and Stefani, 46, found love with each other after each ended their marriages last summer. Shelton called things off with Miranda Lambert after four years of marriage. Stefani followed suit a month later, divorcing husband of 13 years and father of her three sons, Gavin Rossdale.

When Stefani headed back to The Voice as a judge last fall, the two clicked and began dating.

The two have been inseparable for almost a year, and wedding bells don’t seem too far off for the couple.

“They are not engaged yet,” says a source close to Stefani told PEOPLE exclusively last month. “Everyone is expecting it to happen at some point, though.”

With season 11 premiering Monday, Shelton will appear on The Voice again at 8 p.m. on NBC, but Stefani (and fellow judge Christina Aguilera will be sitting this one out. Instead, Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys will fill the women’s red chairs.
