FIRST LOOK: Mariah Carey Has the Keys to the 'Empire'

The pop star will appear on the hit Fox show's Oct. 5 episode

The wait is almost over for both Empire fans and Lambs alike.

The hit series dropped a brand-new season 3 trailer on Friday, offering viewers their first official glimpse at Mariah Carey‘s upcoming role.

First released by Entertainment Weekly, the promo shows the pop diva, who plays a singer named Kitty, joining Jamal (Jussie Smollett) in the recording studio.

In addition to a brief glimpse at their duet, we even get what appears to be a glorious little Mariah-Cookie interaction.

“You always got a trick up your sleeve!” Carey says knowingly, seemingly addressing Taraji P. Henson‘s beloved character.

Fox previously confirmed the musical icon was set to star in the show’s Oct. 5 episode after months of speculation.

According to a press release’s, Carey’s character Kitty is “a mega-superstar who comes to Empire to collaborate with Jamal Lyon on an explosive new song.”

“When the duet encounters obstacles, Kitty help Jamal dig deep to overcome personal difficulties and reach a musical breakthrough,” continues the release.

Smollett recently opened up to PEOPLE about working with Carey, 46.

“She’s just the best,” said Smollett, 33. “She says ‘darling’ a lot. But I say ‘darling,’ too, as a joke, so it works perfectly. This friendship works very well.”

“She’s a good human being and a really sweet lady … don’t get me wrong, she’s a diva,” he added. “I said, ‘Do you own flats?’ She’s like ‘Darling, no.’ Okay. That’s why she has dope calf muscles.”

Empire season 3 premieres Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
