Malcolm-Jamal Warner has been keeping a secret.
The 44-year-old actor, best known for playing Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, made a surprise appearance Wednesday on American Horror Story.
His scene was brief – he showed up at the beginning of the episode, sporting a smart fedora and a big grin. But by the look and sound of things, he is likely to make a comeback. He’s introduced as a possible old lover of Desiree Dupree (Angela Bassett).
“I’m sorry, but I couldn’t stay away,” he tells Desiree.
A spokesperson for the FX show, which likes to keep secrets as a way to surprise fans, would not comment on Warner’s status.
But fans tracked him down on Twitter, where he acknowledged his AHS debut, and explained why he had kept mum about his latest gig on FX. (He also appeared on Sons of Anarchy this season as a biker named Sticky).
Besides a potentially high-profile gig on AHS, Warner has another reason to feel good these days. He just earned a Grammy nomination in the Best Traditional R&B Performance category for his work on “Jesus Children” with the Robert Glasper Experiment and Lalah Hathaway.
The actor has yet to weigh in on the accusations dogging Bill Cosby, though other former cast members like Raven-Symoné have made comments via social media.
