For Erin Andrews, the decision to appear on Dancing With the Stars went far beyond the chance to learn the waltz or the tango.

“I wanted to do it because I thought it would be a great platform to come and talk to you,” Andrews, who was the victim of a video stalking scandal last fall, tells Ellen DeGeneres on Thursday’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “I wanted to come and be on a show where millions of watch and just say, ‘If you’re stalked or a victim of video voyeurism you shouldn’t be embarrassed — you should live your life.'”

The ESPN sportscaster, who has received death threats since the scandal broke, said she was “tentative” about appearing on the show. But since joining, she has been thrilled by the support from her “wonderful family” of DWTS costars.

“I’ve got a Russian on my side that isn’t going to let anyone come near me,” Andrews said. And an Olympian as well: “Evan Lysacek said he would take his skating blade for anyone that comes near me.”

As for whether her relationship with that particular Russian, her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, is heating up, Andrews joked, “Depends on what day you get us on.” –Blane BachelorMichael Rozman/Warner Bros.
