After dating for several weeks, bachelor businessman Tom D’Agostino Jr. is swept off his feet by Real Housewives of New York City star LuAnn de Lesseps, 50.

“LuAnn is the new love of my life,” D’Agostino, 49, tells PEOPLE. “She is a beautiful person who is elegant, classy and filled with energy like I am. We have a lot in common.”

As President and CEO of Smart Source, a corporate print industry company, the workhorse is constantly on a plane. He lives in New York City and West Palm Beach, Florida, but has business around the world.

“LuAnn has traveled internationally yet is down home and equally comfortable at black-tie galas as country barbecues,” he says. “She is cosmopolitan and shares my zest for life.”

The couple were introduced by a mutual friend about eight months ago. But both were dating others. Then more recently, while each was dining separately at The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges in Manhattan, sparks flew between them.

“We were each with other people but started talking and it was magic,” he tells PEOPLE. “We have been inseparable ever since. She is like an asteroid who has impacted my life.”

In the past few weeks, de Lesseps and D’Agostino have snow skied, played golf, tennis and enjoyed days on the water in his Chris Craft Corsair. They also spent a romantic New Year’s week-end in Palm Beach visiting clubs and restaurants, and have dated in Manhattan and Sag Harbor.

He is impressed with how nice the reality star is to her fans when they spot her in public places.

“I am a private person and not used to cameras following me everywhere, but LuAnn handles it with class,” he says. “She is great with her fans. She is a genuinely nice person.”

Although the bachelor has been engaged once and has had several serious relationships, no one has come close to making him feel like changing his status until now.

“I would only give up being a bachelor if the woman I love is like me,” he says. “And LuAnn is the same type of person.”

He adds: “I have met my match, and I want to propose sooner rather than later.”
