Oprah Winfrey Weighs in on Live! Drama, Says 'Nobody Should Ever Be Blindsided'
"You shouldn't have to read it in the paper. Ever," Oprah Winfrey told ET Online
“I don’t know who’s in charge, but somebody should’ve said, ‘This is going to happen.’ You shouldn’t have to read it in the paper. Ever.”
She added: “Blindsided is never good.”
ABC announced that Strahan, 44, is ending his four-year run on Live! to join Good Morning America as a full-time co-anchor in September. He joined the GMA team in 2014, appearing twice a week on the show.
“She totally understands why he’d take the job it’s a great job!” the source said. “But there is a way to go about things, with courtesy and respect and decency, and none of those things were done here.”
Ripa was absent from Wednesday’s episode of Live! and a source told PEOPLE that ABC doesn’t know when she’ll return – Ripa headed to the Turks and Caicos islands on a 20th-anniversary vacation with husband Mark Consuelos and her family, a source told PEOPLE.
However, daytime TV icon Winfrey has another idea in mind for the show.
“You think she’d want to do it by herself now? She could,” Winfrey told ET of a possible replacement for Strahan. ” I remember I had a co-host for a long time and I wanted to do it by myself so I get it.”
Although she said she disagrees with Ripa being “blindsided” in the situation, Winfrey said Strahan will be a great edition to GMA because of his “natural talent.”
“I think Michael is so great he’s like a natural talent. We felt that from the moment he sat down in the seat next to her, don’t you agree?” she said.
“He’s going to be great on GMA – he won’t get any sleep, but he will be great.”
