In Little People, Big World‘s Roloff family, one chapter is ending, as another just begins.

After 27 years of marriage, Amy Roloff and husband Matt are in the midst of finalizing their divorce. Still, on son Zach’s wedding day, the two came together in a show of support.

“My parents were hugely involved in the wedding,” Zach, 25, tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. His wedding to bride Tori took place on his family’s bucolic Hillsboro, Oregon, farm, and “my parents played a huge role in setting it up, making it all nice,” he says.

For his dad, that meant creating some ambiance. “Matt planted a bunch of wheat fields,” says Tori, 24. “There’s like these huge rolling hills of wheat behind the gazebo, which is really beautiful.”

And thanks to his mom, the wedding party, family and friends enjoyed a home-cooked meal for the rehearsal dinner. “She cooked for 45 people,” says Zach. That was a big task for her.”

The happy day gave the embattled couple respite from their own relationship woes. “Weddings definitely give opportunities for families to come together,” says Zach. “It definitely was a united front. Your worries go away and it’s all very positive and forward thinking.”

Though his parents shed quite a few tears that day, for the first time in a while, they were happy ones.

“My dad bawled his eyes out pretty much the entire day; my mom did the same,” says Zach. “It’s another milestone in their life as parents. They just kept saying how happy they are for us.”

The wedding will air as a two-hour special on TLC on Aug. 25 at 8 p.m. ET.
