“I feel intimidated because, I don’t want to espouse any stereotypes, but gay people are kind of killing it at weddings right now,” the 29-year-old actress said during her Friday appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres show.
“They’re kind of winning at weddings. So, I don’t want to go in and just pale in comparison.”
Still, she said she does have a lot of big wedding ideas, which she shares with Antonoff “as he’s falling asleep.”
Earlier this year, the Girls producer revealed to Ellen DeGeneres that she and Antonoff wouldn’t marry until same-sex marriage became legal in all 50 states. Now, in light of the Supreme Court’s groundbreaking decision in favor of marriage equality, DeGeneres had one question for Dunham: “Where’s your ring?”
Dunham said she felt a lot of pressure to “just go for it that day” when same-sex marriage became legal, but the two wanted to “wait for a moment where we feel excited about” getting married.
“I mean we own a dog together. We own a home together, but the marriage thing is a big deal,” Dunham said. She said is excited to marry Antonoff “at some point.”
Dunham and Antonoff have been together for nearly four years – sometimes Dunham even wears his underwear – but she told DeGeneres that if the two ever split, Antonoff knows what kind of girl he’d go for.
“One time I was like, If you ever broke up with me don’t just go out with another chatty female comedian,’ ” she said. “He was like, ‘Are you kidding? If you broke up with me I’d start dating someone who didn’t speak English because I’d like to get a word in edgewise.’
“So anyone who speaks no English, that’s what he’s looking for that’s his only requirement.”
