Lena Dunham Says Goodbye to 'Girls' Set After Six Seasons: 'Gonna Miss This Job'

The sixth and final season of the HBO series will air in winter 2017

Lena Dunham is saying goodbye to an era.

After starring in six seasons of the HBO series Girls, the show’s creator is bidding adieu to the set where she spent the last four years filming the dramedy.

“Today on set I said the words ‘I’ve got my fake nipples on and I’m ready to party!’ Gonna miss this job…” Dunham, 30, captioned an Instagram photo of her on set standing next to moving boxes.

She added the hashtags, “#goodbyegirls #endofGIRLS #seriesfinale.”

Fellow Girls star Allison Williams also shared a sentimental post Thursday on the social media app of her and Dunham in character.

“#TBT. Feeling very sentimental – 2 weeks left of shooting with this one. I don’t want to go back to dancing on my own. Dancing with you is way more fun, @lenadunham,” Williams, 28, penned.

Reflecting on the bittersweet end of the HBO show, Dunham told PEOPLE in January of the series’ six-season run: “I’m really happy that we’ve been given the opportunity by HBO to run for as long as we have and to make a decision about when it felt right to us to conclude. It’s really meaningful to not be wedged into anything but just to be able to let it take it’s natural course. And that’s super-awesome.”

The sixth and final season of the HBO series will air in winter 2017.
