On Sunday, Jung-jae beat out Mike Colter (Evil), Billy Porter (Pose), Brian Cox (Succession), Jeremy Strong (Succession) and Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us) for the honor. "Oh my God," he began his acceptance speech in disbelief, adding, "Thank you, God." "Thank you Critics Choice Awards, and everyone who loved and supported Squid Game. Thank you," the actor continued. He added, "Thank you, Netflix! Thank you Squid Game!" Jung-jae's win on Sunday comes amid a major winning streak for the Netflix hit. The series also won outstanding performance by a stunt ensemble. Additionally, Jung-jae recently became a first-time winner at the 2022 Independent Spirit Awards. He picked up an award within the best male actor category for TV series. Ted Sarandos, Netflix Co-CEO and Chief Content Officer, announced the return of the thriller in a Netflix fourth-quarter 2021 earnings interview. "Absolutely," he said at the time. "The Squid Game universe has just begun." The series was a massive hit for Netflix, becoming its most-streamed series to date in October 2021 after pulling in over 111 million viewers. With such high viewership, Squid Game surpassed Bridgerton. The first season of Squid Game also ranked in Netflix's Top 10 in all 94 countries with the rating system. The 27th annual Critics Choice Awards is currently airing on The CW and TBS.
