Laura Prepon has flown the coop.

Orange is the New Black, the Netflix original series that takes place in a women’s prison, will lose one of its central characters, inmate Alex, played by Laura Prepon, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

While Prepon, 33, will no longer be a series regular, she still will return for season 2 in order to tie up any loose ends in her storyline. There also remains the possibility of a comeback in the future, says the trade publication.

“Our season is still developing and nothing is confirmed,” a Netflix rep said in a statement. Season 2 of the series is currently in production.

It is not clear if Prepon decided to leave the show or if the plotline requires her exit. Alex is a love interest of the main character, Piper, played by Taylor Schilling.

The news comes on the heels of Sandra Oh‘s announcement that next season of Grey’s Anatomy will be her last.

But which departure will result in a greater loss for the viewer (and the actresses’ respective series)?
