Representatives for Khloé Kardashian have reached out to Dennis Hof – the owner of the Nevada brothel Love Ranch where her ex Lamar Odom was found unconscious Tuesday – to ask for respect in the midst of the former basketball player’s ongoing fight for his life.

“We reached out to Dennis yesterday politely asking him to respect Lamar’s (and Khloe’s) privacy during this difficult time and refrain from talking to the press,” reads the statement. “This is a very painful situation, as I know you are aware, and the idea that anyone would use it to seek publicity is really sad.”

Hof has been vocal about Odom’s stay at the brothel in the days leading up to his hospitalization, initially telling PEOPLE: “He was having a good time, happy and healthy.”

Upon learning Odom, 35, had been hospitalized, Kardashian immediately rushed to Nevada and has been making all medical decisions since they are still legally married (even though they signed papers in July).

A source close to the family tells PEOPLE that Kardashian, 31, is “not doing well at all with the responsibilities of making medical decisions.”

“She never dreamed that she’d have these responsibilities, and it’s just so overwhelming and unexpected,” the source says. “She had been thinking of him as an ex, so to find out that, ‘No, you have to do this.’ Well that’s really hard for her.”

Odom, who had cocaine and opiates in his system, remains in a coma.

As of Thursday, Kardashian’s mother Kris Jenner, as well as her sisters Kim Kardashian West, Kourtney Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner had headed to Las Vegas in support, and her brother Rob Kardashian posted on Instagram that he was “Praying nonstop for my brother !!”

Kardashian also arranged for Odom’s father, ex-girlfriend and two children to fly out from New York to be by his side.

Odom’s daughter Destiny, 17, and son Lamar Jr., 13, released a statement Thursday night: “Thanks for your outpouring of prayers and support for our dad. We are here with our family and friends. We appreciate everyone respecting our privacy at this time. We ask for your continued prayers.”
