He was at an event celebrating his TV Guide cover, but Taylor Kinney couldn’t resist complimenting his fiancée Lady Gaga.

“I’m just proud. I just wanted her to take her time and really just enjoy the moment for what it was,” the Chicago Fire star told PEOPLE on Monday of Gaga’s rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl the night before.

“To be on that stage in front of as many people that were watching and to represent not only the song but the country was a pretty big deal. I thought that she really took the bull by the horns and did a great job,” Kinney said adoringly.

He’s not only super supportive of her onstage work, but he’s also gung-ho about her acting career. When asked if there were any plans for Gaga to guest-star on his successful NBC show, he told said, “I feel like that’s always an open invitation. Sure, yeah.”

One thing the couple is doing together these days is preparing for their wedding. “We go back and forth,” Kinney told PEOPLE when we asked if he’s involved in the planning. But don’t believe everything you read – Kinney denied that a ceremony in Italy is on the books. “I heard that I was getting married in Italy. I want to know if I can go. Do I get to come to this thing? It sounds like an amazing party. I want to go,” he told PEOPLE, laughing.

Wherever they end up tying the knot, one thing’s for sure – Gaga’s dress is going to be epic. While Kinney has no idea what his future bride will be wearing, he imagines it will be “something special.”

That’s one way of putting it.
