Kylie Jenner keeps making headlines and causing concern over behavior, but one close family friend says the 17-year-old’s social persona isn’t necessarily reality.

“People think she is wild but she really isn’t as wild as she seems or puts out there,” the source told PEOPLE. “She’s definitely a rebel and does what she wants – hair how she wants, dresses how she wants – but there’s also a certain persona she’s putting out there.”

Jenner sparked speculation that she was using marijuana after posting a video via Snapchat on Wednesday. In the clip, which was saved and uploaded to Instagram on an account called kylizzlesnapchats, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star eats a Popeye’s biscuit while seemingly mumbling “I’m high as f—.”

The source insists the speculation is incorrect, and fans were misinterpreting Jenner.

“She didn’t say high as f—,” they told PEOPLE. “She was eating Popeye’s chicken for the first time and said ‘good as f–.’ ”

“She loves to feel sexy and post sexy things but she isn’t that wild,” the source added. “Her sisters aren’t worried. She’s so close with everyone that they know what she’s doing and who she’s hanging out with.”
