Kristin Cavallari‘s year ended in tragedy, but she still mustered the strength to toast to 2015’s happier times.

The former reality star enjoyed a quiet New Year’s Eve dinner with her husband, Chicago Bears quarterback, Jay Cutler on Thursday – the first time she’s stepped out in weeks.

“Last night was the second time I’ve put makeup on in over 5 weeks and left the house (besides the grocery store and taking Cam to school),” Cavallari, 28, captioned a photo of the couple.

In the Instagram pic, she and Cutler, 32, are both dressed in black as they toast at the dinner table.

Cavallari continued her caption describing how her year went, as she experienced some amazing highs and extreme lows, welcoming her daughter Saylor James in November but losing her younger brother Michael that same month.

“Even though I shed a few tears, it was a really nice night and felt good to be out,” the mother of three wrote. “2015 brought my sweet, baby girl but it also took my brother’s life. Hoping for no extreme highs and lows this year. Happy new year, everyone.”

Cavallari welcomed Saylor just before Thanksgiving, officially making her, her hubby and their two sons – Jaxon Wyatt, 18 months, and Camden Jack, 3 – a family of five.

Sadly, her family lost a member shortly after when Michael went missing and was found dead nearly two weeks later. Police revealed that his body was found in the Salt Wash area in Utah, which is described as having steep and rocky terrain. An autopsy was ordered to determine the cause of death.
