Kristin Callavari is going through difficult times.

A source close to the former reality star tells PEOPLE the car accident she was involved in on Thursday rattled her – especially considering how tough the last few months have been with the loss of her brother.

“After everything that has happened lately, the accident really shook her up,” the source says. “She’s just thankful that she didnt get hurt.”

Cavallari, 29, was hospitalized briefly after she was hit by another driver in Chicago. A source told PEOPLE Thursday she is doing fine and was likely to be discharged from the hospital shortly.

The accident came at a difficult time for Cavallari, whose 30-year-old brother Michael was discovered dead on Dec. 10, nearly two weeks after going missing in Utah.

Cavallari has kept a low profile whilst mourning the loss, spending a quiet New Year’s Eve with her husband, Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, and going out for a birthday lunch with her mother on Jan. 5.

Cavallari and Cutler, 32, also welcomed their third child, daughter Saylor, just before Thanksgiving.

In a New Year’s Instagram post, the star reflected on the year, writing: “2015 brought my sweet, baby girl but it also took my brother’s life. Hoping for no extreme highs and lows this year. Happy new year, everyone.”
