Although Kristi Yamaguchi is officially rooting for fellow Olympic figure skater Evan Lysacek on the current season of Dancing with the Stars, the season 6 champion says she was surprised when she found herself cheering for someone else.

“You know who I like, who I thought I wouldn’t? Pam Anderson,” Yamaguchi told PEOPLE at the 2010 Skating with the Stars gala in Harlem. “She is a riot! Just her bringing her acting and all of that just adds so much. I was looking forward to seeing her perform this week.”

Wearing a black plastic bracelet with the words “Vote For Anna and Evan” printed in white on the side, Yamaguchi said that even though she loves Pam, Lysacek and partner Anna Trebunskaya will likely take home the mirror ball trophy.

“Evan has got a great chance to make it to the finals,” Yamaguchi said. “He has got a lot of personality and he is not shy about it.”

She attributes Lysacek’s success so far — as well as her own success on DWTS — to being an athlete. “It does take a certain amount of work and focus and I think athletes are just used to having a task in front of them and going for it,” she said. “They can take direction and are coachable. You need to be good at listening and taking criticism and not taking that criticism personally but applying it. Athletes are used to that.” –Isley KasicaBryan Bedder/Getty
