Before Kim Kardashian West endured what was without question the scariest ordeal of her life, she was given perspective on everyday anxiety by her sister Kendall Jenner.

In a sneak peek at Sunday’s episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kardashian West finds out that her 21-year-old little sister has been suffering from sleep paralysis, a disorder in which one experiences a temporary inability to move or speak while falling asleep or upon waking.

Kardashian West, 36, had never heard of the disorder before, so Jenner explains, “It’s like, you’re asleep and in the middle of the night basically your mind wakes up but your body is still asleep,” she says. “So you wake up, but nothing can move.”

“It’s the scariest thing in the entire world,” continues the model. “You literally think you’re never going to be able to move your body again. You can’t do anything. You’re freaking out, because all you want to do is be able to move, so you’re laying there and you’re trying to move — but I think the key is to try and relax.”

Asks a stunned Kardashian West: “And you can’t communicate it?”

Later, in a confessional interview, Kardashian West takes a step back.

“I mean, I thought I was having anxiety,” she says. “This is, like, so much scarier. I’ve never heard of sleep paralysis, and I think it sounds like such a crazy experience, and I feel so bad that she’s been going through this.”
