The Wests are still building their dream home in California, but Kim Kardashian West says her man would have big plans for the White House if elected president.

On Wednesday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star discussed her husband Kanye West‘s recent announcement that he wants to run in 2020.

When Ellen DeGeneres asked the reality star if she knew her husband would be making the announcement while accepting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards in August, Kardashian West admitted it was a surprise.

“That was news to me!” said Kardashian West, 34, in the pre-taped interview. “That wasn’t a discussion in our household.”

Kardashian West also confirmed that her hubby wasn’t joking.

“He’s serious,” she said. “I believe he is serious and I know that if he puts his mind to something he’ll do his best, and it’s been fascinating just hearing all the conversation that’s gone on since that announcement – I don’t know if that was planned and I just didn’t know about it or if he just came up with that idea then and there.”

“He said he was high,” DeGeneres pointed out. “He admitted that he had been smoking a little something!”

Kardashian West laughed and confirmed that it was “a fun night.”

West, 38, has also confirmed his ambition is serious, recently telling Vanity Fair he is “definitely” still thinking of running in 2020.

“As soon as I said that, it was like, ‘Wait a second, we would really be into that, because actually if you think about it, he’s extremely thoughtful. Every time he’s ever gotten in trouble, he was really jumping in front of a bullet for someone else. He’s probably the most honest celebrity that we have,’ ” West added.

Despite her surprise at his announcement, Kardashian West can certainly see the famous family taking over Washington, D.C.

“That’s a big thing to not talk to your wife about – but I think it would be so much fun to be in the White House,” she told DeGeneres. “I was joking with him, I was like, ‘You’re going to have to make it to a second term’ – because he loves redecorating – so I was like, ‘You’re going to want to redo the whole White House, and we’re not going to be able to enjoy it so we’re going to just have to go with the flow.’ ”

Ellen airs weekdays at 4 p.m. ET.
